This post is written in collaboration by all of the female members of the Howlers Den. We put our heads together to compose this essay. It is a conglomeration of all of our thoughts regarding the matter of Ann Romney's speech at the Republican National Convention. As well as our perspective on the vision her husband Mitt Romney, his Vice Presidential choice Paul Ryan and the Republican party have for our nation.
To us Ann Romney's speech appeared to hearken back to another era. As though we had entered a time machine and traveled back to the 1950's. Even her dress and hair style were reminiscent of a day which has passed us by. She spoke about women being mothers, sisters, aunts, and daughters. About the love she shares for her husband Mitt. How decent he was, a good family man. It was the speech of a woman who has lived her entire life since late adolescence within the confines of a very traditional role. Most reviews directly following the speech and today said that she had done well. But we women of the Howlers Den disagree.
The 1950's were indeed in some ways a golden time for America. Men went to work, married couples owned houses, women stayed home and cared for children. Life was simple for many. Sock hops abounded and the American dream was seen in almost every television show. Leave it to Beaver, Make Room For Daddy and the like blared across our television screens daily. But for some there were still dark days in America. Jim Crow laws abounded and 'separate but equal' meant white people lived well and other groups did not. The burning crosses of the Klan shone in the night sky. A black man who dared to look upon a white woman or express his opinion swung from a tree under the moonlight. Women bled and died in back alley rooms because abortion was illegal. Who you could love was decided by the state, interracial marriage was a crime. Poll taxes and literacy tests limited the polling places to white Americans. The disabled spent their lives in institutions, there were no community services to give them a semblance of a normal life. Young women grew old and careworn before their time. There was no birth control. Forcing them to have more children than they were mentally, emotionally and financially able to afford.
The success of women is directly related to the availability of Birth Control. Only women need such an accommodation in order to achieve upward mobility in our society. The choice of when and if to have children strongly affects women's educational and career opportunities. Even today the women who have children young, find the path to prosperity to be a long hike in the high mountains of life. New Voter ID laws similar in some ways to those poll taxes of the past are making it more difficult for the young, disadvantaged and elderly to obtain the paperwork necessary to vote. New laws have been passed all across the country seeking to limit women's access to contraceptives and abortion. The old language and perceptions that minority segments of our population are lazy have returned to haunt the present day plane of reality. All of these things have been brought into being by the Republican Party. Draconian cuts are being planned in Paul Ryan's budget regarding the poor and disabled. Trillions of dollars. While we return to a place and time where prosperity belonged to the Caucasian few. Everyone else took a back seat.
Ann Romney was not truthful with her audience. By the time she entered school her family was well off. Wealthy in fact. Her father was the founder of Jered Industries and she attended the elite Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. While her husband to be attended the equally elite and brother school Cranbrook Academy. Neither knew what poverty was. They may have struggled a bit but it was due if reports are correct, to the fact that they wed young. Against her parents wishes in fact. So perhaps they allowed her a bit of a struggle to learn what life was really about. But did she really?
Mitt Romney believes he is a self made man but that also is not entirely the truth. All of his life he had opportunities that citizens from some segments of the population never enjoy. Just those that attended their wedding give you an idea of the privledged life that they led. Among the guests were then Congressman Gerald Ford, Semon Knudsen and Edmund Cole. Richard Nixon sent congratulations. Not a common wedding, not a common family. Though that is the picture she attempted to present at the Republican National Convention. The snapshot of a couple that struggled for success which is far from the truth. Is Ann Romney fooling her audience or herself?
Then Ann Romney made a choice. She chose to be a stay at home Mom and not work. She had five sons. She had every right to make that choice. But there is no right for Ann Romney, her husband or the Republican Party to expect the rest of the nation's women to do the same. Many of us have chosen a different way of life. A way of life which involves career, choosing when and if to have children. Having control of our own bodies, not dictated to by the government.
The Romney family went through struggles and her husband Mitt stood by her through her health issues. He is a fine husband to her that is obvious and she is happy with her life. That is all well and good. But that does not mean that he and his Vice Presidential running mate have a good vision for America. Or necessarily that the Republican Party does either. We, the women of the Howler's Den reject the offer of the ride in Ann Romney's Time Machine. We believe that journey is not where America should go. That it is a ticket to a nation of fewer freedoms, diminished prosperity for the majority of the citizenry, and a Dream limited by sex, race and economic status. We decline the offer. Instead we reach for a soaring flight where the many thrive, freedom is equal for us all and where women make the choices pertinent to their lives.
Welcome
Welcome to the Den. Enjoy your visit. The Internet is a vast resource which should be used for good purposes and not evil ones. We are vigilant in our quest to remind wrongdoers that anonymity is not a right it is earned through behaving in a rightful manner, having respect for other people and viewing the World Wide Web as just another segment of Real Life. Neither the Internet or Real Life are a fantasy world where you can do whatever you want regardless of who it harms without consequence. When you do harm your anonymity is forfeit. Some believe we do harm. That however is not our concern. Our concern lies in ensuring that those who do harm can not hide themselves from public view. Laura Schwartz who has already been posted here is pretending to be a Gold Star Mother which is horrible. Many parents have lost loved ones yet both of her sons are alive.Schwartz is not at all a Gold Star Mother. She is an awful individual who deserved to be posted here and we will continue to post her and this screenshot on military websites and military support websites.
Christine Monteith Greenland
Some of the members of SU have been lied about by another associate of Former Navy Seal Benjamin Smith. She is a member of 'Rush Babes For America' which I think says it all. Earns her the booby prize of the year for being a fanatical idiot.

Continued Postings of Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund
(Written in collaboration by Michelle, Tan, Terry and Hedgehog)
We at SU continue to study the situation involving Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund and their criticism of President Obama. We consider this criticism to be unwarranted, unfair, unjust and highly partisan in nature. The OPSEC group is being highly criticized by other members of the military and their motivations questioned. As should be.
All of them have ties to the Republican Party and Conservative groups (such as the Tea Party) though they deny it. Some have been involved in Swiftboating before, involving both Senators John Kerry and Congressman John Murtha. Their reasons are highly questionable and without merit. Let us look at how this situation should be viewed.
In a similar example Marine Sargeant Gary Stein is being dismissed from the military for criticizing President Obama on his Facebook page. He actually stated that he would not follow the President's "unlawful orders". Now what if every time a soldier disagreed with a President they did not follow orders? What would that do to a President's authority as Commander in Chief? The military has a long standing policy going back to the Civil War which in part says the following-
"According to Pentagon directives, military personnel in uniform cannot sponsor a political club; participate in any TV or radio program or group discussion that advocates for or against a political party, candidate or cause; or speak at any event promoting a political movement. Commissioned officers also may not use contemptuous words against senior officials, including the defense secretary or the president."
http://www.armytimes.com/news/2012/03/ap-marine-says-corps-kicking-him-out-for-criticism-of-president-032112/
Admiral McRaven the Special Operations Chief has clearly been telling the troops to 'stand down'. Though he states that those who are no longer in the service are within their rights, he is highly critical of the actions of those criticizing the President. This is from an article in the Army Times.
"McRaven also took former special operators to task for "using their 'celebrity' status to advance their personal or professional agendas."

Which is exactly what the members of Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund are doing and other groups that are associated with them. It is a travesty that has consequences far beyond this election. Though these individuals are no longer in the military, they violate the spirit of everything they say that they believe in. To do so for partisan gain is dishonorable and disreputable. It also erodes the confidence of the American people and the Armed Forces in President Obama the Commander in Chief. Many of them served for a long time and retired with high rank. Other young members of the Armed Forces may look up to them, and listen to what they say. Their outspoken, public opinions encourage undisciplined behavior, an example being Sargeant Stein.
Truly they should be ashamed of themselves and the discord their activities create and encourage. Every American should look on it in this way. That it is not the Obama Administration dishonoring OPSEC, but the other way around in actuality. Admiral McRaven and Joint Chief Martin Dempsey make it clear. They are dishonoring their service, and the Armed Forces of the United States by undermining the authority of the President.

John C. Willke
Dr. John C. Willke is the 'Physician Father' of the bogus material regarding rape and women not getting pregnant. He is probably the only physician in the country who embraces this totally 'voodoo science'. As it is totally untrue and has no scientific justification whatsoever. Dr. Willke is President of the International Right to Life Foundation and the Life Issues Institute.
Nothing can be said other than that the man is a quack who the anti-choice groups have embraced. Not only was he embraced by them, he was also embraced by Mitt Romney in 2007. From Wikipedia:
Mitt Romney's 2007 campaign embraced Willke as “an important surrogate for Governor Romney's pro-life and pro-family agenda”,[6] and Romney expressed is pride to "have the support of a man who has meant so much to the pro-life movement in our country."[7]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_C._Willke
The Romney Campaign needs to address how they feel about this man and his teachings in the present. Also the platform of the Republican Party at their Convention will in fact contain language which calls for a ban on abortion even in the case of rape or incest. A truly radical view.
We post.

Todd Akin, The Republican Party, Abortion Rights And Rape
This posting is a conglomeration of research conducted by Hedgehog, Tan, Michelle and I. We authored this together in answer to the heinous statements of Congressman Todd Akin (R) Missouri and what it means. Not just in regards to him but to the Republicans, the anti-choice movement and women's rights.
Let us take a look at what this is really about. The best place to find the answer is among the writings of the ant-choice movement itself. We never refer to the anti-abortionists as pro-life as they do not support the life which already has lungs, an education, a family, friends, responsibilities etc. We'll begin with the first of Akin's false beliefs.
1. That biologically a raped woman does not become pregnant. This is a fallacy which in fact has been promoted for several decades. It is not a new idea, nor is it exclusive to Akin. Republicans have followed and believed in this idea for some time. The idea dates back to at least the 1980's and has been used by many Republican politicians since then. It is an abject falsehood which is used to delegitimize rape victims who become pregnant.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/08/20/rep-todd-akin-is-wrong-about-rape-and-pregnancy-but-hes-not-alone/
2. Many now are trying to say that by legitimate rape he means 'forcible rape' which in fact is not correct. At first on one interview Akin agreed with that conception of his wording but today changed it on an interview. Now he is saying that he meant 'false rape'. Which in fact lies at the heart of the anti-choice movement. The following excerpt is from Human Life International.
Manipulating the 'System.' Women who are willing to kill their own preborn children for mere convenience obviously see lying as a relatively small crime. Rebecca Chalker and Carol Downer admit in their A Woman's Book of Choices that "Before abortion was legal, women sometimes got abortions by claiming that they had been raped."[73]
Pro-abortion women have continued to lie on a huge scale, as proven by the Hyde Amendment's varying effects upon the level of Federal funding of abortions since 1977.
The Hyde Amendment cut off Federal funding for convenience abortions, and paid for 17,983 abortions to save the life of the mother and for rape and incest in Fiscal Year 1981.
In Fiscal Years 1983 and 1984, only abortions to save the life of the mother were allowed under the Amendment, and the average number of abortions paid for during these two years plunged to 411.
This means that about (17,983 - 411) = 17,582 abortions were performed for claimed "rape and incest" under the Hyde Amendment in 1981.
This brings up a very interesting point. To begin with, about 20 percent of all women in the United States qualify for Federal abortion funding under this Amendment due to their low incomes. As mentioned above, the average number of rapes in the United States each year over the period 1980-1997 inclusive was about 179,980.
If this number is divided by five in order to find out approximately how many low-income women were raped during these years, we arrive at 36,000.
In other words, these low-income women are claiming that (17,582/36,000) = 49 percent of all of their rapes resulted in pregnancies!
To take this analysis one step further, Figure 3-5 shows that about 0.8 percent of all women who are raped actually become pregnant as a result of the act. This means that the number of women who claimed that they were raped to get a free Federal abortion was (49 percent/0.8 percent) = 61 times the number that were actually raped.
In other words, more than 98 percent of them lied to get a free taxpayer-paid abortion!
Lyin' All Over the World. The phenomenon of women lying to obtain abortions is certainly not unique to the United States. Just as a bogus gang-rape was used as the basis of the Supreme Court decision to usher in abortion on demand in the United States, a girl who claimed that she was a victim of a gang-rape drove the first wedge into Britain's protective abortion laws in 1938.
According to sworn testimony, professional pro-abortionists alleged that a 14-year old girl was lured into a stable to see a horse with a wooden leg (I swear I am not making this up) and was supposedly gang-raped by four guardsmen. She became pregnant, and went to a crusading abortionist (Alec Bourne), who gave her a free abortion. He then turned himself in. In the resulting case of law, Rex v. Bourne, Judge Alex McNaghten decided that delivery of the baby would impair the girl's mental health, and acquitted the abortionist.
Naturally, the guardsmen were never called into court to answer to the charge of rape — and for good reason. The incident never happened.
At the other end of the world, a New Zealand commission that liberalized that country's abortion laws recommended against a rape and incest exception since the likelihood of false reports and the difficulty of checking them would render the exception utterly meaningless.[74]
The Impacts of Lying. When an abortion law is liberalized to allow exceptions for rape and incest, the number of women claiming rape just so they can get a free abortion invariably multiplies by a factor of two, five or even ten. Just as inevitably, all available rape-crisis resources are overwhelmed by the sudden explosion of referrals. Women who were really raped will be victimized a second time because of these liars, and agencies and the public will eventually begin to regard even genuine claims of rape as "crying wolf."
Additionally, these callous and uncaring women will stretch law-enforcement agencies to the limit. The results may be twofold: When the lying woman is quizzed regarding her "rape," she may feel pressured to come up with a name — any name, and innocent men will be prosecuted and even jailed (although this result may be welcome to the gender feminists who claim that "all men are, by their very natures, rapists").[75]
Secondly, the chances of real rapists being caught will drop drastically due to overloading of investigative agencies, and these predators will be perfectly free to rape and rape again.
In just one of thousands of cases of false rape accusations, an 11-year old girl accused her mother's boyfriend, Ivie Cornell Norris, of raping her repeatedly. Cornell was convicted and sent to prison. After he had languished there for more than a year, the girl admitted that she had lied. Her story was based on an episode of the television program "21 Jump Street," which had depicted a rape.[76]
Norris' life was destroyed; he lost his job, his freedom, his reputation, his girlfriend, and all of his savings over this spurious charge. This is typical of the impacts on a man who is imprisoned on a false rape charge. Gender feminists know full well that Norris' story might be repeated thousands of times annually if women try to get abortions under rape and incest exceptions. But, since they couldn't care less about the impacts of their decisions on men, they cannot be expected to promulgate any kind of safeguard against this terrible abuse.
The Pennsylvania Abortion Control Act of 1988 required women who claimed to be victims of rape or incest to report their crimes before getting a free abortion from the state. The reporting of rapes jumped significantly the very first month the law was in effect, and police reported that some women admitted that they were reporting rapes just to get a free abortion.[77]
When large numbers of pro-abortion women start lying to get their free abortions, the situation makes it next to impossible for law enforcement agencies to find and prosecute real rapists. As Ferris B. Lucas, Executive Director of the National Sheriff's Association, said in 1983;
We do, however, wish to comment on the provisions that would allow federal funds to be paid for abortions performed for treatment of rape or incest victims only. The wording would lead a person desirous of an abortion to make false reports to law enforcement agencies which would have to be checked and investigated to some length. These crimes are not easy ones to prove or disprove and resultantly require many man-hours of investigation. American law enforcement agencies are presently overburdened and do not have this vast amount of time available.[78]
This explosion of uncaring liars first occurred in Colorado, when the Model Penal Code abortion law revisions were passed in 1967. This law allowed abortions only to save the life of the mother for rape and incest, and for the mother's health. Of the 1,850 legal abortions performed in Colorado the first year under this law, 18 percent (or 333) of the mothers claimed to be rape victims.[79]
According to the statistical analysis performed earlier in this Chapter, it is probable that at least 330 of the 333 were lying. This percentage is buttressed by the fact that, in all of these cases, not a single rapist was arrested or even identified, a statistical impossibility in light of the fact that more than half of all rapes are committed by men that the victim knows.

Now we can truly see where Congressman Akin's ideas come from and what he truly means. Legitimate rape in his mind, doesn't produce children (or so say 'imaginary doctors'). From the above excerpt among the anti-choice movement lies a deep belief that women lie about rape in order to obtain funding under the abortion exceptions. That is what Akin is really speaking to. All of his beliefs come from the extremist point of view, wishing to end all abortions for every reason.
SE Cupp once again is wrong when she says trying this to Paul Ryan is a stretch. He is deep in the anti-choice movement. He sponsored a bill with Akin involving the same said abortion exceptions. In that bill was an attempt to redefine rape to 'forcible rape' and exclude other rape occurrences such as through the date rape drugs, ect. A reporter should indeed ask Mr. Ryan whether he believes women lie to obtain abortions. That is what Akin believes and stated today in fact. Is that not what the 'forcible rape' definition was meant to attempt to limit? Women lying to obtain an abortion? The absurdity of it all is far over the edge of sanity, into the realm of fanaticism. Ryan should have to answer questions about his beliefs in this matter. He is in fact still listed as a co-sponsor on the bill with Akin. He also sponsored a personhood amendment which would affectively end abortion and some forms of birth control. He also sponsored a bill requiring women to have an ultrasound before an abortion.

This is a radical agenda and it has been part of the Republican Party Platform for over a decade. This is the third convention which will encompass the beliefs stated above as part of their platform. Now they are going to vote today and tomorrow on exactly what the view of the Party is on abortion. Then again on Monday, the first day of the convention. Let us see if expediency changes it. If so no woman in the United States should believe them. The gap is wide in the women's vote with Romney losing by fifteen points to Obama and soon probably more.
Women are not just one issue voters. The economy is of course a concern but what good is wealth without civil liberties and freedom? Our right to choose, to have access to contraception, to decide our own medical care with our physician, to chart the course of our lives and future is in jeopardy. Jeopardized by the policies of the Republican Party, the beliefs of a large portion of its membership, and the fanaticism of zealots like Akin. We as women need to vote in a way which upholds our civil rights and ensures our dignity as equal citizens of the United States. Romney/Ryan are not the choice which will help us to maintain our equitable place in society and continue to make progress.
We wish Senator Claire McCaskill the best in her Senate campaign against Congressman Akin. The people of Missouri should take a long look at the reprehensible statements made by Congressman Akin, what they truly mean and vote for a good and moderate candidate, Senator McCaskill.
So we again post.

Response to Benjamin Smith's FaceBook Denial (Credit to Kit)
Benjamin Smith is trying to say that he is not a Birther and only has doubts about Obama's birth on his Facebook page. But the facts, written by his own hand show that statement to be false. First here is a screenshot of his statements.
Secondly here is a link to his statements as well.

There is no doubt that Smith is a Birther and anything he says about President Obama is colored by prejudice and lack of objectivity.

Swift Boating Cont'd
Another member of Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund Inc. has been located. He is another ex-Seal who is no more objective than the other members. In fact he may be even less so. Another birther as well. His name is Captain Larry W. Bailey. What stands out with him is that he has been involved in Swift Boating previously. Captain Bailey has connections to KerryLied.com and BootMurtha.com. In fact the BootMurtha.com site was registered in his name.
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Larry_Bailey
http://www.nowpublic.com/world/anti-obama-navy-seal-opsec-leader-larry-bailey-i-m-birther
He is also involved with a similar group called SOS. Mr. Bailey is a frequent writer for Soldier of Fortune magazine whose publisher has been posted here as well. He is CEO of Advanced Maritime Technology Development Inc. and a board member of Seafarers International LLC.
Captain Bailey's involvement with the Murtha and Kerry sites before his assault on President Obama shows clearly that he is nothing more than a partisan Republican hack trying to do harm to the President. Just as he did Senator Kerry and Congressman Murtha. Nothing he says is truthful and he should not be believed nor given any credibility.
We all as Americans have respect for Navy Seals who serve their country with honor and distinction. But when they leave behind the path of integrity to engage in the disparagement of those who also served with honor (Kerry and Murtha) as well as those who acted rightly (President Obama), they are no longer deserving of our respect.
Captain Bailey, Scott Taylor and Benjamin Smith of the two Swift Boating posts have left the path of dignity. They disgrace the US Navy and dishonor their service. They are discredited as valid critics of the President and their statements are without merit.

Swift Boating 2012 Style (Written in collaboration with Michelle)
There is a new group of veterans who call themselves 'Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund'. Their CEO and leader is named Scott Taylor who promotes himself as an ex-Navy Seal. The group attempts to say that they are not partisan but the facts on the ground tell quite a different story.
Mr. Taylor is associated with the Tea Party Express and has deep ties in the Conservative Republican community. In 2010 he ran unsuccessfully for the 2nd District Congressional Seat from Virginia. Likewise another of their members Benjamin Smith also has deep ties in the Conservative community. The groups 'official spokesperson' Chad Kolton is an ex-member of the Bush Administration who now works for a PR firm called HDMK. None of these individuals are anything but highly partisan and their denials smack of abject untruthfulness.
They are highly critical of President Obama in a 22 minute video being released during this election season. The video is nothing but a partisan Republican attempt to undercut the President's success in the raid which killed Osama Bin Ladin. The premise is that he takes too much credit for himself in a way which is unseemly. And that his administration is leaking too much information regarding the Seals and intelligence missions.
Both of those accusations are beyond ludicrous. If you look at all of the speeches the President has given since the raid against Bin Ladin's compound he has been nothing but gracious and appreciative of the Seals and their efforts. These accusations have been widely debunked, yet this group continues to promote them. They also have ties to other groups such as marinetacticalsecurity.com. Most in a study of backlinks shows groups all of which are soliciting for donations which is interesting.
Their bitter partisanship disgraces the Seals Organization and their own honorable service. They should in fact be ashamed of themselves. Perhaps this group should look at who wishes to add to Veteran's benefits and who wishes to take them away in a budget of mean spirited austerity but which gives huge tax breaks to the wealthy. They would be better doing that and fighting for their brothers-in-arms who have been injured in service to their country. Rather than attempting to discredit a President who had the courage to act when others before him did not.

Voter ID Laws and The RICO Statute
We at SU have been following this political season closely. We have seen numerous bullies among the Conservative groups attempting to affect governance in numerous and sundry ways. From Birthers (bye bye Clifford Stearns) to pro-lifers/anti contraceptive groups to the uber rich, the few want to decide the fate of the many. One of the biggest occurrences among the Republicans has been the slew of Voter ID laws invading the country. Almost all in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida. Most are passed on the false pretext of voter fraud which study after study has shown to be non-existent.
http://votingrights.news21.com/article/election-fraud/
http://www.truthaboutfraud.org/
Instead many people such as the ACLU, civil rights leaders and Democrats (as well as anyone with a brain) suspect a much more serious and insidious motive. Republicans have set out on a deliberate path to disenfranchise voting groups who historically vote for Democrats. Those groups being students, the poor, minorities and the elderly. They are attempting to limit the vote among these groups in order to aid Mitt Romney towards victory. There are many in the Civil Rights community who also suspect something else.
The Republicans went after Eric Holder over Fast and Furious which is in fact nothing more than a failed law enforcement sting operation. Which happens frequently and in reality is not Holder's fault. They even thought up this mind boggling reasoning for Fast and Furious. That it was in fact a conspiracy meant to affect gun rights here in the United States which is ludicrous of course. Where in fact does the real conspiracy lie?
Firstly there are many who believe the Voter ID laws are the real reason the Republicans went after Holder. They knew he would attempt to stop states from initiating them. And he has. We at SU have discussed this subject at length because this is a very serious situation. Hundreds of thousands of Americans will not be allowed to vote in November if these laws are allowed to go into affect. So we brainstormed and have a question for the Justice Department. We believe the subject of these Voter ID laws must have been discussed among the Republicans. At the Republican National Committee, the Republican Governor's conference and so forth. If these laws are a deliberate attempt to violate the Voting Rights Act and deny people the right to vote, that is a crime. When people get together as a group and discuss committing a crime, that is considered a conspiracy. Why then can't the Republicans be charged under the RICO statutes? Meeting to discuss violating people's rights to vote makes them as a group a criminal enterprise. It can be considered a form of racketeering. Used primarily to go after the Mob and other gangs it has been used for other purposes as well.

As the last link shows it is used to prosecute other groups besides criminal gangs and the Mafia.
They should begin in Pennsylvania with Mike Turzai of the Pennsylvania Legislature and his very public acknowledgement that the Voter ID law there was meant to give Mitt Romney the victory.

Then as the head of the Republican Party they should indict Reinhold Reince Priebus as Chairman of the Republican National Committee. The Republicans are determined to win at any cost it seems no matter how illegal. Voter suppression is a form of bullying and it must be stopped.
So we post.

Paul Ryan and Ayn Rand
Today on Fox News in an interview with Brit Hume Paul Ryan tried to distance himself from Ayn Rand the Soviet author and atheist. He tried to say that he did not know until long after reading her books about her philosophy. How much later? As recently as 2009 he still had this to say.
What he has to say now doesn't to me and many others pass the 'smell test'. This is the person the T's are dancing at having been chosen as VP.

To Praxeum and Crozeus
Praxeum your information has been sent to the archives where it will be kept. Crozeus we hear often that info is incorrect and more often that is not the truth. It will remain for the time being until we have proof otherwise.
We at SU have had a goal for a lengthy time period. Though Jianna is no longer a member and has not been for a long time our way forward continues. On the day that Rebels shuts down and no longer exists as a website we will consider our work done. People can say 'we weren't involved' but when you belong to a site knowing that there are members engaging in wrongdoing, but don't speak out and remain members, you are also in the wrong.
We have had polite requests for removal and granted them. But that doesn't mean that to a certain extent we don't hold those members to be part of the problem. Which is what you are if you are not part of the solution. The solution being to speak out against bullying and leave a website where it occurs as on Rebels. Leaving the bullies to their own deviant devices.

Sunday Morning Reflections
I am just sitting drinking my Sunday morning coffee, reading the paper and having a great breakfast cooked to perfection by my honey. (He makes awesome breakfasts!) The group is quiet at the moment. Many are away on vacation, some preparing to return to school. I have some postings for today but want to start off in a bit of a different way.
First I would like to discuss the Joe Soptic ad which so many have criticized as being over the top. The ad concerns Bain Capital under Mitt Romney closing a steel mill and the loss of jobs by 700 workers. One being Mr. Soptic. Five years later Soptic's wife died of cancer, and he blames Romney for her death. Seems outrageous at first glance, but perhaps it is not quite so. Do any of us know what type of insurance Soptic had? Most steel mills were/are unionized and the employees have good benefits. There has been talk that his wife also had insurance through her job which was at a Savers (a type of second hand chain store). Do we know how the two policies compared? It is more than possible that the insurance Soptic held through the steel mill was a premium plan while hers was not and perhaps had more deductibles etc. Or not have all the preventative coverage Soptic's might have had. Is his point that if those things had been in place, her cancer might have been detected sooner? Perhaps while it was still treatable? People don't die of cancer overnight either necessarily, some linger for many years. On its face the ad appears unfair, but is it? Mr. Soptic is entitled to feel as he does, whether we agree with him or not.
I believe the point is to really draw attention to the type of scorched earth economics Romney practiced as CEO of Bain Capital. Which did not engage in sympathy or concern for the employees and focused on profits instead of people. That should be the focus in my opinion. There is good business and bad business. When a company exists only for its own profits without regard for workers, that is neither a moral or rightful way to conduct business. There is a price in fact that workers tend to be the ones who pay not ownership. Such as in the case of the Soptic family. Perhaps we should all reflect upon our concepts of what businesses are about and what they should be about.
Secondly we come to Mitt Romney's choice of Paul Ryan for his VP. Ryan tries to come across as the 'I'm like you I worked as a waiter' candidate. I had to laugh as those of us who are here at present researched the Paul Ryan subject. He in fact has never been poor. His father was an attorney and though Paul Murray Ryan passed away when Paul Ryan was sixteen, he was not left destitute by any means. His father was in fact well off, and Congressman Ryan's family owns one of the largest construction companies in America. Ryan in fact worked for that construction company before becoming a Congressional aide, then finally running for office in his own right. In fact his own mother, Elizabeth (nee' Hutter) Ryan was afraid he would be a ski bum. (Most poor kids can't afford to ski)

Then we come to his wife Janna. Though at present she is a stay at home Mom, previously she was a high powered tax attorney for PriceWaterhouseCoopers. She also did not grow up poor. Her family is prominent in the state of Oklahoma.

Though not as wealthy as Romney, the couple in fact have no idea of what poverty is, or to be an ordinary, struggling American. The Republicans love to promote the idea that President Obama is encouraging 'resentment' against the success of the wealthy. In fact that is not true. There are many wealthy Dems, no one seems to resent them. I am a successful business person in my own right and I do not resent those who perceive wealth properly. What in fact people resent (myself included) are those well off individuals who refuse to comprehend the difficulties those who are not well off face. Such as Romney and Ryan. Who ignore the everyday struggles the poor, disadvantaged, and elderly face in order to have an even livable quality of life. Romney has never been poor or ever struggled no matter what he tries to present. He and the Ryans always had a safety net and some amount of wealth behind them.
To then be in favor of cutting benefits to those in need, while giving tax breaks to those like themselves is highly immoral. Those who promote such a path are not people of character either. So what is resented is not the wealth itself, it is the lack of regard for those who have not had the life long opportunities, wealth and privileges those like the Romneys and Ryans have enjoyed. Underlying the policies and beliefs of the two (considering neither has ever been needy) lies a disingenuousness of heart and spirit which is in fact disconcerting to many Americans.
So once again we post.

The Time For Action Has Come
After the shooting in Aurora Colorado out of what we viewed as respect for the victims, we stopped posting for a few days. But these types of violent atrocities have now become too frequent to remain silent any longer. All silence does is allow the gun rights advocates to formulate their newest strategies. Every time there is one of these mass shooting incidents they come out of the woodwork, determined to head off any new attempts at reasonable gun control.
The incident at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin located in Oak Creek once again makes it clear that Americans need to do some soul searching. We need to reconsider our attitudes about guns and the laws which regulate them. What will it take before as a society we are willing to evaluate ourselves? Dozens more dead, wounded, maimed? Children without parents, parents without children, sisters without brothers and vice versa. Husbands without wives. Will it take our becoming a society where fear rather than freedom rules the day? Why should any American no matter who they are fear taking their children to worship, or to see a movie? Those events which shake our faith in our fellow Americans should be few and far between but that is no longer so. See the following article which lists a few of the violent occurences in our recent history. This article far from lists all of them. http://timelines.latimes.com/deadliest-shooting-rampages/
We also need to reflect upon certain beliefs of groups within our culture. Most (though not all) gun rights advocates are Conservatives. Most (though not all) are Republicans. Gun rights groups state that we need guns for numerous reasons. One being hunting. A second being self-protection and the protection of loved ones. The third being that if our government should turn on its citizens, they should not have all the weaponry. In other words to fight tyranny. The first two may indeed be reason for weapons ownership but that doesn't mean that there should be no limitations upon them.
The third however is a self-created paradox. The same Conservatives who advocate gun rights also believe in what they refer to as American Exceptionalism. That as a people, a nation, a society that we are above the rest of the world. Those who may credit other nations as also having positive and exceptional attributes are considered 'not patriots'. As have those been called who don't agree with other Conservative actions/ideals such as the war in Iraq.
Yet they would have us believe that a reason that guns are necessary is that our government may turn on its citizens. Our government which is of the people, by the people and for the people might one day oppress/suppress those it is entrusted to serve. How can that be if we as a people are exceptional? The principles and beliefs are contradictory. In fact there is nothing less patriotic than the belief that a government ruled by a Constitution, freely elected by the people and subject to numerous political safeguards, would descend into tyranny. It is unrealistic and invalid as reasoning for gun rights without rational limitations. We at SU believe the following are not unreasonable limitations on Second Amendment Rights. Even Justice Scalia believes there may be room for some such limitations which SCOTUS would need to review.
1. A reinstatement of the assault weapons ban. No American needs an automatic/semi automatic weapon to hunt or defend themselves.
2. A closing of the gun show loophole so that every gun purchaser has to have a background check.
3. A limitation on the amount of ammunition that can be bought. As in the case of James Holmes, no one requires 6000 rounds of ammunition for any legitimate purpose.
4. A ban on high capacity magazines. No one needs to be able to fire hundreds of rounds in a short period of time. No good purpose is served with these magazines.
5. A national database should be formed to track gun and ammuniton purchases. We have such a database to track how much Sudafed and other forms of antihistamines someone buys. The idea that we can't do so for weapons and ammunition is ludicrous.
Our elected officials need to stop being afraid of gun rights groups and their lobbying arms such as the NRA and the Gun Owners of America. The 'grading' of politicians who support gun control and the monies donated to campaigns in order to defeat them. We need our elected officials to show courage and strength when facing down these groups. One group of Americans should not control the safety and well being of all of us. Common sense gun control measures are necessary and should be implemented to stop these horrible incidents of mass killings. It is a society that is capable of looking internally to see its faults, pass the measures which safeguard the majority and have faith that liberty will prevail over tyranny which makes a nation exceptional.
We at SU will continue to post the information regarding groups such as the NRA. Every community should be aware of the members who reside within their borders that promote self interest over societal well being. And we continue to pray for all of those harmed by the spate of excessive violence plaguing our nation.
Our Condolences
We at SU wish to express our condolences to the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin located in Oak Creek. We are praying for all of you in your time of need after the horrific shooting there earlier today. We hope that all Americans will rise in support of your community. We are all Americans and as one we should condemn this senseless act of violence.
We shall continue to hold the members of the Temple in our thoughts and prayers.
